The Princess of Monaco, Charlene Wittstock married Prince Albert II today in an opulent religious ceremony at the Prince's Palace. Famous faces among the guests included Karl Lagerfeld, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Naomi Campbell, and Georgio Armani — who designed Charlene's gown, which had an impressive train.
The Roman Catholic marriage ceremony followed Prince Albert and Charlene's civil wedding and balcony kiss yesteday. And last night, they celebrated with elaborate fireworks and a concert at Port Hercule. The three-day Monaco royal wedding extravaganza will wrap up tonight when the couple and 450 guests dine on food prepared by French chef Alain Ducasse at a white-tie dinner and ball. Fireworks will cap off the evening again.
Charlene now takes the title last held by Grace Kelly, who was married to Prince Albert's father in a similarly lavish royal wedding in 1956. That wedding also included a civil and religious ceremony, and Princess Grace's wedding gown, created by an MGM costume designer, was so iconic that it clearly influenced Kate Middleton's wedding dress on her big day. Today's ceremony definitely lives up to the grand tradition of Monaco's last royal wedding.
